One of PPP’s Trustees, Professor Peter McOwan, passed away at the end of June 2019. Peter was a loved and respected colleague, known for his generosity, integrity, energy and passion for public engagement, his BAFTA-winning work across boundaries between science and the arts, and his sense of humour.

Peter McOwan was Vice-Principal for Public Engagement and Professor of Computer Science in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Queen Mary, University of London. His research interests were in visual perception, mathematical models for visual processing, in particular motion, cognitive science and biologically inspired hardware and software and science outreach. He was elected as a National Teaching Fellow in 2008 by the Higher Education Academy. He also ran a number of computer science outreach projects including Computer Science for Fun, the Sodarace robot design competition, and Illusioneering – the secret science behind magic. He is deeply missed.
