This book aims to uncover and understand the harsh realities of widespread, normalized gender violence from the perspective of women themselves, acknowledging the unequal power structures they face.
Based on research conducted between 2016 and 2023, it focuses on women living in the favelas of Maré in Rio de Janeiro and Brazilian women in London.
The book also challenges the notion that gendered violence is unique to Brazil’s urban peripheries or exclusively affects Brazilian migrant women.
