This booklet follows on from the “Guia de Saúde Mental” ” which was launched during the first Maré Mental Health Week (REMA Maré) in 2021.
The focus of “Psychological First Aid – Helping the Helpers, Caring for the Carers” is to delve deeper into issues already addressed in the previous edition, and to propose new ways of thinking about mental health within the Maré favela complex in Rio de Janeiro. This is approached from a perspective of psychological first aid, self-care, and community mental health alongside carers.
The guide, with its warm and welcoming text, moves away from the concept of diagnosis. It provides simple information and guidance so that people without formal training in mental health can offer initial psychological support to those who need mental health attention.
